Fiber Ferrule's Function Fiber ferrule acts as a fiber alignment mechanism. Single fiber ferrule is a long, thin cylinder with a hole bored through at center. The diameter of the hole is slightly larger than the fiber cladding. Typical ferrule hole diameters are 125um, 125.5um and 126um for 125um fiber cladding. After polishing, the end of the fiber is located at the end of the ferrule.
